FUNERAL POLICY

Macedonia Baptist Church

In the event of a death in our family we are here to support you through this time of grief. Please contact our Church Bereavement Coordinator, Ruth Hemphill for assistance with scheduling and arrangements. By phone: 432-349-9165 or email rebconelms@suddenlink.net

Funeral Policy

Everyone, sooner or later will find themselves dealing with the grief that comes from the passing of a loved one in death. Our church family stands ready to assist anyone who needs our help and counsel.  Our Church Staff will do their best to work with the family to find a time that is feasible for both the needs of the family and the church’s scheduled programs and work to remove any additional stress.  At Macedonia Baptist Church our primary spiritual responsibility is to its members. Macedonia Baptist Church is not obligated to offer the same privileges to non-members that are offered to church members who support the ministry of this church spiritually and financially.

Macedonia Baptist Church will give special consideration to non-members who are the immediate family members of a member in good standing. Immediate family members are defined as: Parents, Spouse, Siblings and Children.

A member in good standing is a person who has received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, who has completed the new member’s requirements, been fellowshipped into the church, attends worship services regularly, and contributes to the financial support of the church.

Members

1. When death occurs in the church family, the pastor or assigned deacon should be immediately notified. The Pastor, Director of Administration, and the church secretary will assist the family in preparation and offer Christian solace.

2. Funerals at Macedonia Baptist Church are considered worship services. It is recommended that the funeral service of members be held in the church.

3. The Pastor will conduct the funeral services and offer words of comfort that God gives through the promises found in His Holy Word. If the pastor for any reason is not available to conduct the service, the Pastor will appoint a minister from the pastoral staff. The Pastor must authorize and approve a minister who is not a member of Macedonia Baptist Church to do the eulogy of the church member at the service.

4. The order of service will include the singing of hymns of victory and praise, scripture reading and a resolution from the church.

5. To show our love and esteem for the deceased member, the church will provide a musician, flowers for the funeral service and a fellowship meal for 50 family and friends. Details will be handled by the administration department.

6. Since the funeral service of a member is regarded as a worship experience of Macedonia Baptist Church, no fees of any kind will be charged for the use of the church’s facilities or its personnel for funeral services of members.

Non-Members

1. The fee for the use of the church for a funeral of any individual who is NOT a member of Macedonia Baptist Church is $100.00. This includes the use of the sanctuary, fixtures and sound equipment. An additional $50.00 is required for the fellowship hall/kitchen. (All services and fellowship activities must be concluded within 4 hours.) A $50.00 deposit is required for any outside group to use the Fellowship Hall and must be paid at the time of reservation. If the facility is appropriately cleaned and returned to its previous state; the full deposit will be returned within 7 days.

2.The church is not responsible for providing or arranging for a musician, soloist, or fellowship meal for the funeral service of a non-member.

3.The Pastor is not required to eulogize the funeral of a non-member of Macedonia Baptist Church. However, the Pastor or a minister of the pastoral staff will be appointed to officiate the service. As in the case of any funeral, other ministers must be approved and authorized by the Pastor to officiate or conduct a funeral service at the church.

 General Guidelines

To show our sympathy for the loss of an immediate family member, the surviving Macedonia Baptist Church family member may choose one of the following:

A. A Floral display

B. A $50.00 love gift.

C. A $50.00 deduction from the funeral fee if the service is held at Macedonia Baptist Church for a non-member.

A statement of comfort will be written and given to the Macedonia member in good standing on the death of any immediate family member.

It is the responsibility of the member to notify the church of the death of the immediate family member in a timely matter.

The church is not responsible for and does not provide for printed obituaries. Recommendations can be made of local reputable printers.

All services and fellowship activities should be concluded within 4 hours.

Those experiencing extreme financial hardship, may be granted the use of the sanctuary for the service and use of necessary equipment free of charge at the discretion of the Pastor and /or his designee. This will not include use of the fellowship hall or a prepared meal.

Verse of the Day

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
Psalm 1:1-2
